It’s finally cooling down a little. We can actually start doing things outside now. We have to endure 4 months of living in hell to get to 8 great weather months. It’s so close now. In anticipation of all of our family here for Thanksgiving, Bill and his grandfather made some cornhole platforms!
We spent a couple of beautiful days up in Prescott.
We played some Mexican Rummy (using the Mexican Rummy scoring app, I didn’t do so well).
After we got home, Bill sanded & painted the platforms. We decided to go with Ironwood High School for our theme. Bill and his brother went to Ironwood. Tyler is going there now, and Sarah will follow in two years.
All I had to do was make the bags. They are simple to make. The bags are made out of duck canvas and are filled with whole corn. We got the corn from the feed store. The finished bags are 6″ x 6″ and should weigh between 14 and 16 oz.
1. Gather your supplies.
2. Cut your fabric in 7″ x 7″ squares. You will need 8 squares of each fabric.
3. With right sides together, sew around the square with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Leave a couple of inches open on one side for filling bags. Sew around the square again with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Leave the same opening for filling.
4. Trim seam allowance & corners.
5. Turn right side out and push out corners. I use a chopstick for this. Press.
6. Fill with whole corn. The regulations say about 2 cups. Mine took 2-1/4 cups. I weighed them with a kitchen scale. Pin opening closed.
7. Sew opening closed with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Make another seam between first seam and edge.
8. Repeat steps with all your squares.
8. Go Play!!!
